In the novel “The Book Thief” Markus Zusak uses insignificant events to portray his idea of the power of words. There are multiple times in the novel “The Book Thief” where Zusak used insignificant events to reveal specific significant themes later on in the novel. Examples of this are shown when the character Liesel decides to steal the gravedigger’s handbook, the painting over Mein Kampf and when Liesel decides to start writing her own book in her basement. All of these events seem insignificant at first but later on, in the novel, they begin to unravel and adapted into very purposeful significant events that portray Zusack’s idea of the power of words.

When Liesel decides to steal the gravedigger’s handbook, this is a perfect example of Zuzak using insignificant events to reveal specific significant themes later on in the novel. The actions that Liesel decides to make cause multiple significant events later on in the novel. Examples of this are shown when the character Liesel makes the decision to steal a grave diggers handbook. This is the first time the reader sees Liesel rebel towards the rules society. At the time the reader won’t pick up on the importance of this very moment. The power of words plays a very import role in this action. By Liesel steeling the book blaaahh blaaah

The painting over Mein Kampf is a very significant moment in the novel. When lisel decides to take action and dee face the book that has destroyed millions of peoples lives. When she choose to do this it shows to the reader that lisel is taking power and owner ship of her belives. QUOTE…
